Alicia is an Onboarding Coach here at Leadr.
She graduated from University of North Texas in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Studies (Business, Communications, Public Affairs and Community Service). As an enneagram 7, she’s passionate about using her “Enthusiastic” skillset and her love for bringing energy and encouragement to play a role in helping organizations prioritize their people. With 12 years of Non-Profit and Event Planning experience, Alicia still finds the most fulfillment in her work when she receives feedback that Leadr content has improved emotional and mental health, and created peace in areas where there was once chaos.
Outside of work, Alicia is happiest working out (currently boxing), at dinner with friends, or traveling. She has a personality the size of her home state, Texas.
Why I'm Passionate About Leadr
At Leadr, we all have a story of a poor management experience that led to our passion for people development and desire to work at Leadr. We call these our Nigel stories.
Nigel is a fictitious character we’ve worked with or for in the past with unhealthy leadership tendencies. We all have those tendencies within ourselves, and they can emerge unintentionally, impacting those around us.
We are all Nigels, or know a Nigel, and Nigel is why Leadr exists. Here’s Alicia’s Nigel story. What's yours?
Nigelicia (terrible name) was thrilled to be hired as the first full time employee at a non-profit. This camp provides the highest quality camp experience for the lowest possible cost. She knew that the work was meaningful and loved her role. As the first and only full time employee, she was ready for the challenge ahead. Her responsibilities included being the main point of contact for all speakers, bands, nurses, interns and 300 volunteers and 100 church group leaders annually, as well as event planning for every week of camp.
After fulfilling this role for over seven years, Nigelicia was introduced to the Leadr software. She quickly realized that some of the inconsistencies faced over those years could have been easily streamlined with this excellent tool. She thought of how much Leadr would have helped with clarity and intentionality with the projects. Everyone received the details to staff camp via mass emails, texts and phone calls as they prepared for camp, but there were certainly some volunteers and leaders who she spoke to much more frequently than others. Along with fielding customer service calls from the 1-800 number, there were some leaders who just took more time than others. Leadr would have streamlined everyone’s communication so every volunteer and church leader would have felt equally valued.
Leadr would have made it much easier to assign content to the key interns every summer. The details about the volunteer staff applicants would have been easily accessible and organized all in one place, rather than in multiple google docs and sheets. The “profile card” and notes section, along with the personality assessments would have allowed us to customize communication and training to each volunteer and intern, while playing to their strengths. These would have also been helpful when booking for programming...especially with speakers and bands. Having access to documented feedback in one place for the musicians and speakers would have been helpful, rather than just having notes listed in a google doc or even the antiquated post-it.
Camp season can be chaotic with 8 weeks and 3500 campers. Nigelicia could imagine that some of the new volunteers may have felt overlooked during those early camp sessions. Yet, she couldn’t articulate a solution, especially when caring for the team was a top priority. Leadr is the solution. If she had Leadr, the volunteers undoubtedly would have felt more appreciated, noticed and cared for during their time serving at camp. The church group leader communication would have been documented all in one place.
Even with an organization that doesn’t have traditional “employees,” Leadr would have streamlined and consolidated our efforts for development and growth. Nigelicia would have been able to excel with the right tools and would have saved time and frustration by using Leadr.
